Deregulous

October 3, 2008

Democrats can be heard at every turn bemoaning the last eight years as a case of “deregulation” running wild in the halls of power. This is the lie of the century. These last eight years we have witnessed repeated  encroachments  on the part of government on large swaths of civil society. The Bush administration’s main job has been to amass more and more power, to hand out more and and more favors, with the tacit consent of both parties, while scaring the population to death: first with the prospect of more terrorist attacks or nuclear wars, and now with unwarranted  doom-and-gloom scenarios in the financial sector. The worst about this is that their line seems to be working very well with the electorate. Where is Bill Maher when we need him?
