Kansas at its best

July 28, 2009

The prairie moon is out tonight,
It’s Kansas at its best.
A cold breeze swept the sky,
With love, and covered it in branches.
A dark tapestry of trees,
Yet to be leaved.

The West is still red,
But I walk North to South
It’s East that’s intriguing
Now purple. I feel protected
Amid the limestone, illuminated
By a gigantic lunar circle.

The prairie awaits the fires
That will cover it black
Leaving it necklaced with
Stone pearls. The Spring is near,
My eyes can tell.
And then we will be watching
the stormy ships sail by
That’ll be a completely different story.
